Книга адресована специалистам в области прикладной экологии, океанологии, охраны природы, рыбного хозяйства и нефтегазовой промышленности для решения научных и прикладных задач экологической экспертизы, мониторинга и регламентации нефтедобывающей деятельности на шельфе./The recent advances in Russian and world-wide studies on environmental aspects of the offshore oil and gas industry are considered and summarized. Unlike the first publication on this matter (Patin S.A. Ecological problems of oil and gas resources development on the marine shelf. - M., 1997) the major focus in the book is made on the methodology of environmental impact assessment of offshore operations in relation to marine ecosystems and living resources. Besides extensive published sources, the numerous latest results of ecological monitoring in the regions of developing oil and gas on Sakhalin shelf are used as a database in this work. Base on original methodological approach the book provides an detailed analysis of environmental effects and impact at all stages of offshore oil and gas activity. The main sources and factors of the offshore oil complex impact on marine living resources and industry are revealed. The principled conclusion about reality of optimal balancing interests of oil industry and fisheries on the marine shelf is grounded. The book is addressed to a broad circle of specialists in applied ecology, oceanology, nature protection, fisheries, oil industry for assisting ecological expertise, monitoring, environmental assessment and management of the offshore oil and gas complex.

В настоящее время сейсморазведка составляет около 90% от общего объёма геофизических исследований./Presented is the compilation of literary data on the influence of seismic exploration on basic hydrobiont groups - fishes, pelagic invertebrates (zooplankton), and fish eggs and larvae (ichthyoplankton). The method of seismic survey with the help of airgun sources (AS) is briefly described and characteristic of physical factors and types of impact, arising during initiating AS, is given. Based on the SakhNIRO surveys in 2004, quantitative data on the impact coefficient for basic groups of zooplankton and fish eggs and larvae are given. These coefficients are suggested for assessing impact on water bioresources caused by seismic works on the areas of the Far East seas.

Отмечено, что динамика уловов различных гидробионтов в конце 1990-х - начале 2000-х годов имела разнонаправленный тренд./The dynamics of the volume and the composition of the commercial catches of aquatic biological resources has been demonstrated on the data of the Statistical System "Rybolovstvo" for the period of 14 years for five commercial districts adjacent Kamchatka Peninsula. In four district observed the fluctuations of the catches were determined by the single species which is walleye pollock. Three species - pink salmon, walleye pollock and herring - dominated in turn in the commercial fishery in the Karaginskaya subzone. It is found that the dynamics of the catches in the late 1990th and early 2000th demonstrated different trends for different hydrobionts.

Given scantiness of living resources in coastal waters of the Black Sea and their vulnerability, we should prioritize careful and non-waste utilization of marine living resources, development activities aimed at increase of the basin productivity, fisheries management based on concideration of physical and geographical, biological, social, and economic factors. We should highlight the following most urgent tasks: 1) to restrict fishing with active fishing gear in coastal waters of the Black Sea and use mainly passive fishing gear adequate to the available resources; 2) to develop sprtive and recreational fishing; 3) to increase biological diversity and fisheries potential in the cosatal ecosystems through development of aquaculture and construction of artificaial reefs.

After Soviet Union period any hydro-acoustic survey was not carried out in the Russian waters of the Black Sea. Taking into account experience and the current knowledge which the VNIRO scientists received by research activities on water areas of the Mediterranean sea, it is offered to renew hydro-acoustic monitoring of pelagic fish stocks on shelf zones of Black Sea with participation of all Black sea countries for estimation of distributions fish biomass within all Black Sea pool using identical methodical approaches and devices.

Reasons for the low efficiency of the current exploitation of freshwater fisheries resource base are analyzed and ways to improve its development are shown. The necessity of the transition from the management of catch quotas to the number and types of fishing gears on the reservoirs, on the basis of their performance, species and size selectivity. Basic methodological problems and errors encountered in the course of the fish stocks assessment are discussed; the need to enhance the role of experts in commercial fishing in these studies is noted.
